Antioxidants vs. Free Radicals
Free radicals are those things that weaken your immune system and make it possible for you to catch things. Antioxidants are things that we have been hearing more and more about lately. They are now available in vitamins so we can take them in pill form.
While it is very important to get what we can in our diet in terms of vitamins and minerals, it is great that we can get what we miss or a little extra boost in the form of a vitamin supplement. In this way we have a little extra help against those free radicals.
How does this help in the aging process? Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror when you are sick? You do not look your best do you? Being sick does damage cells in your body. Those damaged cells that you can see also create damaged cells that you cannot see. That is not just with a cold or the flu. Think of an even worse disease that does greater damage to cells, or to even more cells. You cannot slough off all of the damaged cells, therefore you look older. Healthy cells look healthy, sick cells look sick and they look older. That’s why it’s important to keep your cells as healthy as possible.
The number one enemy to your skin is the sun so be sure if you are going to be exposed to the rays, use sun screen. It is essential even if you did not use it in your younger years to do so now. That suntan that you used to think looked so healthy was not so healthy after all. Unfortunately it could now be causing you problems. If it is not causing you problems now it could in the future, if you do not protect yourself.
That is what antioxidants are all about - protection. You can go to a dietician or your doctor and get a plan to follow for the proper foods for your metabolism. He or she can also recommend the proper exercise routine for you as well. This combined with your vitamins and minerals will be the perfect plan for your health.
The plan above will need to be followed up with lots of water. Our bodies are made up of mostly water and it needs to be replenished on a regular basis. Drinking a lot of water also helps our systems flush out things that it does not need naturally. Oh, and one last thing…laugher, live life to the fullest. Be happy. To be completely honest, you can do all of this but if it is not followed up with some happiness, none of it will do you any good. So live good, be happy, and be healthy.
